Sri Lanka: Family Safari & Beach | The Holiday People
  • Yes. Safaris in Yala National Park are conducted in licensed, open-sided jeeps with experienced drivers and trackers. Children must remain seated at all times. The experience is exciting but safe, and a highlight for many families.

  • Accommodation is in carefully selected 4 and 5-star family-friendly hotels and lodges, including:

    A lakeside resort in Dambulla

A safari lodge near Yala National Park

A luxury beachfront resort in Ahungalla

All rooms are family-sized and selected for comfort, space and location.

  • The tour includes:

    9 breakfasts

    2 lunches (both in Yala)

    9 dinners

Lunches on other days are typically taken at local restaurants or hotels at your own choice and cost, allowing flexibility for families.

  • There are two longer travel days:

Airport → Dambulla: approx. 4.5–5.5 hours

Dambulla → Yala: approx. 6–7 hours

All other drives are shorter and well paced, with comfort stops and scenic breaks along the way.

  • Yes. The itinerary includes a range of optional experiences, such as village tours, cooking demonstrations, turtle hatcheries, boat rides, whale watching and additional safaris. These can be booked in advance or locally, depending on availability.

  • Sri Lanka is considered a safe and welcoming destination for families. The people are friendly, English is widely spoken in tourist areas, and the itinerary uses private transport and trusted local partners throughout.

  • We recommend:

    Lightweight, breathable clothing

Comfortable walking shoes (especially for Sigiriya)

    Sun protection (hat, sunscreen)

    Insect repellent

Modest clothing for temple visits (shoulders and knees covered)
