Leave the hustle and bustle of Ho Chi Minh City behind and travel to My Tho, a town on the banks of the Mekong River. On arrival, visit Vinh Trang Pagoda, which dates back to the late 19th century, before boarding a sampan to cruise among the four islands known as Dragon, Unicorn, Phoenix and Tortoise.
Stop at Unicorn Island to wander the country lanes and orchards, sample tropical fruits and enjoy folk music performed by local people. Visit a family business and a honey-bee farm, with honey tea and a coconut-candy workshop, then take a hand-rowed sampan through the Thoi Son canal to soak up the beauty of the countryside. After lunch at a local restaurant, cycle around Tan Thach village to meet local villagers and experience daily life in the Delta before returning to Ho Chi Minh City.

At the Cam Thanh Eco-Village — linked to the region's wartime history — you'll take a paddle trip in a traditional Vietnamese bamboo basket boat through a coconut-palm paradise. In the evening, we recommend a stroll around the Old Town, which looks magical when the shops light their lanterns — a scene straight from a fairy tale — and don't miss the colourful performances staged in the streets after dark.

Once the imperial capital of the Nguyen Lords from the 17th to the 19th centuries, Hue charms with its emperors' tombs, ancient pagodas and the remains of the Citadel. Take a short cyclo ride to the Imperial Citadel at the heart of the UNESCO-listed Complex of Hue Monuments, passing through the towering main gate to admire the architecture and gardens as your guide brings the former royal court to life. Though heavily bombed during the war, remarkable sections remain intact or are being carefully restored. Continue to Thien Mu Pagoda, Hue's best-preserved religious monument — its seven-storey tower, perched above the Perfume River, is one of Vietnam's most recognisable icons. In the afternoon, visit the elaborate Khai Dinh Royal Tomb, blending Eastern art with Western design, and the impressive Tu Duc Royal Tomb, built between 1864 and 1867. You'll then transfer to the airport for your flight to Hanoi, where your driver will meet you and take you to your accommodation in the Old Quarter.

After breakfast, check out and leave Hanoi for the bay; the cruise team will meet you at the hotel lobby between 8:00–9:00 am (the exact time is confirmed the day before). Arrive at the jetty around noon and transfer by boat to your cruise. After a welcome and check-in, lunch is served as the vessel glides through hundreds of islets. Spend the afternoon swimming, kayaking or visiting caves (depending on your boat's itinerary), or simply relax on board. As the day ends, the boat anchors in a beautiful spot — don't miss the sunset before dinner. Please note: in poor weather the itinerary may change or be cancelled if boats are not permitted to leave port, in which case alternative arrangements will be made for you.

Explore the charming capital, often called the 'Paris of the East', with its yellow-ochre colonial buildings, tree-lined boulevards and scenic lakes. Visit the historic Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, a marble-and-granite monument to the beloved revolutionary leader; the One Pillar Pagoda, a wooden Buddhist temple built in 1049 in the shape of a lotus blossom; and the Temple of Literature, Vietnam's first national university, dating from the late 11th century and pictured on the 100,000 dong banknote. In the afternoon, discover the fascinating Museum of Ethnology, home to costumes and artefacts from Vietnam's 54 ethnic groups, before a walking tour through the famed Old Quarter — the '36 streets of 36 wares' named after the original artisan guilds.
