Frequently asked questions

  • Peru is a year-round destination, but the dry season (May to October) offers the clearest skies for visiting Machu Picchu and the high Andes. November to April brings warmer temperatures and occasional showers, which make the landscapes lush and green.
  • Most visitors from Europe, North America, Australia, and New Zealand do not require a visa for stays of up to 90 days. Passports must be valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date. Always check the latest entry requirements with your nearest Peruvian consulate before travelling.
  • This itinerary is suitable for travellers with moderate fitness. You’ll be walking over uneven terrain at archaeological sites, and some locations are at high altitude (up to 3,800 m / 12,500 ft). A reasonable level of health and mobility is recommended. If you plan to hike Machu Picchu Mountain, be prepared for steep steps and a challenging climb.
  • To help you acclimatise, the itinerary eases you into higher elevations gradually, starting in the Sacred Valley before Cusco. We recommend drinking plenty of water, avoiding heavy meals and alcohol in the first couple of days, and speaking with your doctor about altitude medication if you have concerns.
  • Accommodation in handpicked boutique or heritage hotels, daily breakfast, selected lunches and dinners, all private transfers, guided tours, entrance fees (including Machu Picchu), Vistadome train tickets, and the Titicaca Train journey are included. International and domestic flights, tips, travel insurance, and some meals are not included.
  • For train services to Aguas Calientes, each passenger may carry one small bag (up to 8 kg / 17.6 lbs, maximum 62 linear inches). Your main luggage will be safely stored and transferred to your Cusco hotel.
  • Yes. Peru’s restaurants and hotels are accustomed to vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other dietary requirements. Please advise your preferences at the time of booking so arrangements can be made in advance.
  • You’ll stay in carefully selected four- and five-star boutique hotels, chosen for comfort, character, and location — from a chic colonial hideaway in Lima to a riverside retreat in the Sacred Valley, a deluxe lodge near Machu Picchu, a charming Cusco hotel, and a lakeside property in Puno.
  • Entry to Machu Picchu is limited and often sells out months in advance, especially for the mountain hike. We recommend confirming your booking as early as possible to secure your preferred schedule.
  • Comprehensive travel insurance is essential, covering medical emergencies, cancellations, and personal belongings. Please ensure your policy includes coverage for activities at altitude.
  • Yes — this itinerary is ideal for families with children aged 8 years and above. The pace is relaxed, with a mix of cultural visits, scenic train rides, and hands-on experiences like cooking classes. Some activities, such as hiking at Machu Picchu or climbing steep stairs at archaeological sites, may be challenging for younger children, so supervision is required.
  • Peruvian cuisine is vibrant and varied, with influences from the Andes, the Amazon, and the coast. Expect fresh fish and seafood (including ceviche), tender meats such as alpaca and chicken, quinoa, corn, potatoes, and tropical fruits. Vegetarians and vegans are well catered for, and dishes can often be adapted for other dietary needs.
  • Daily breakfasts are included, along with selected lunches and dinners. On days when meals are not provided, you’ll have the freedom to explore local restaurants — from relaxed cafés to gourmet fine dining.
  • The Peruvian sol (PEN) is the local currency. ATMs are widely available in cities, and most hotels and restaurants accept credit cards. Small change is handy for markets, tips, and remote areas.
  • Free Wi-Fi is available at most hotels and many cafés. Mobile coverage is reliable in urban areas but may be limited in rural regions, on train journeys, or at high-altitude sites.
  • Bring light, comfortable clothing for Lima and the Sacred Valley, plus warm layers for the Andes and Lake Titicaca. A waterproof jacket, sunhat, sunglasses, and good walking shoes are essential. Evenings in Cusco and Puno can be chilly.
  • Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory. For guides and drivers, USD $5–10 per person per day is a good benchmark, while 10% is customary in restaurants if a service charge is not included.
