Kefalonia Holidays

Explore this beautiful and peaceful island

Kefalonia Holidays

In 1994 the novel Captain Corelli's Mandolin was published and not long afterwards in 2001 a Hollywood blockbuster followed. Kefalonia would no longer be the hidden gem in the Greek Ionian islands, Kefalonia is an remains word famous.

The island is of course beautiful. Like it's sister islands lying north and south, here you will find white sand beaches, soaring cliffs, clear waters and pine filled forests. Larger than Zakynthos Kefalonia offers the same variety but more spread out giving the perception of a much more luxurious island with wide open spaces.

There are plenty of resorts offering a variety of holiday. Kefalonia isn't well known for it's nightlife, dare we say other Greek islands offer more in the way of a party but that's not to take anything away from Kefalonia. Relaxing, peaceful, carefree all spring to mind here.

Where is Kefalonia?

Where to stay in Kefalonia?

Kefalonia boasts a number of wonderful places to stay with accommodation from sophisticated budget to boutique guest houses to five star luxury properties. Here is a quick summary of the main resorts:

Lassi

The largest and most popular resort in Kefalonia, Lassi is a hit for many reasons. The resort lies only 20 mins from the airport, boasts a large white sand beach and a main thoroughfare lined with restaurants, shops and bars. Most excursions start and end in Lassi making this a great base from which to explore on day trips.

Skala

The once small fishing village has become a popular destination in Zakynthos. Here you will find a 3km beach with a mix of sand and shingle, sophisticated cocktail bars and great places to eat. The beach itself is considered one of the best in Kefalonia.

Svoronata

A family friendly destination. Svoronata is hidden away and retains a sleepy village feel. Brilliantly there are three beaches within striking distances.

Katelios

A sleepy fishing village offering you a wonderful place for a peaceful, quiet and traditional Greek holiday. The larger towns are also within easy reach here making it a great place to stay for some days out and variety on your doorstep.

Sami

Chosen as the main setting for the Hollywood blockbuster you won't be disappointed if staying in Sami. The beach is a crescent shape with a panorama of pine trees, the town is quiet, it's very beautiful. The port here is actually quite large for the island and there is always boat traffic. There are great day trips to Ithaca for a days walking n the greenest of Greek islands!
