Enjoy the wonderful Greek Island of Kos

Kos Holidays

The wonderful island of Kos is a jewel in the Mediterranean. Lying east of the mainland and north from Rhodes, Kos is almost within touching distance of the Turkish coast line, far closer than to the Greek mainland.

Kos once had a party reputation but that is ebbing away and in fact, although some resorts within Kos are well developed, the majority are actually quite sleepy. It's certainly a relaxing island.

Kos is of historical importance to Greece whilst also boasts beautiful beaches and lush vegetation. The beaches in particular are an attraction with many hidden coves and unspoilt parts of the coastline make this a wonderful island to explore.

Kos has attractions for all holiday makers but particularly families.

Where is Kos?

Kos island is in the Mediterranean sea, lying east from the Greek mainland and north of the island of Rhodes.

Kos lies around only four kilometres from the coastline of Bodrum, a popular Turkish resort.

How to travel to Kos?

During the summer months of May to October daily direct flights depart from the UK to Kos. Flights are frequent with many flights from multiple UK airports.

During the winter months of late October through to March the availability and scheduling of flights is far lower than in summer as the island all but shuts down through the low season.

Where to stay in Kos?

Kos has primarily two distinct parts, either a party and highlife side or a much more laid back and relaxed side.

If you're looking for disco's and nights beginning in the late hours then head for Kardamena. Here you'll find plenty of bars, clubs and pubs.

Kos Town can also be lively. The harbour side is filled with lantern lit restaurants and diners enjoying supper but along the back streets you'll find plenty of bars opening until the early hours with dancing inside and out.

For something more low key head towards Kefalos. Here you'll find old windmills, traditional old white cube houses and a relaxed atmosphere. Here you'll also find Kamari. Although Kamari was purpose built you'll find lots of restaurants and bars but don't worry, it's not as lively as the destinations Kos Town or Kardamena.

Psalidi is even more relaxed. Here you'll find a beautiful golden beach, a handful of shops and that's about it, this is for those who would like some peace and quiet.

Destinations include:

Kardamena

Kefalos

Kos Town

Psalidi

Mastichari

Tingaki

Marmari

Agios Fokas

Lambi

Helona Beach

Kos Beaches

Kos has over 300km of beaches with something catering for everyone.

Kardamena beach is the largest and most popular. Facilities here are vast and this beach can become quite busy.

If you're looking for something more secluded head 5km south along the coast to Helona Beach. Most people overlook this beach and go to Kardamena but this beach is beautiful and far quieter, more of a paradise in our humble opinion.

If you fancy a day out hop on a boat to Nisyros island, just off the coast from Kardamena. It's peaceful and wonderful!

There are of course many more beaches all along Kos vast coastline. There is something for everyone from golden sands to small secluded to rocky inlets. We are sure you'll find something for you.

Things to do in Kos

Like many of the major Greek islands there are lots of attractions to visit and things to do here. We've chosen some of the highlights here but upon your arrival check with your accommodation as there may well be some local attractions which are ad hoc or new for the season.

The Water Park

A great day our for a family and a change of scene from your accommodation.

Visit Kos Castle

Yes, Kos has a castle. The castle sits at the end of Kos Harbour and was built of course to protect the harbour itself.  The castle was finished in the 16th centaury. Please click here to visit a great page which gives lots of detailed information about the history.

Visit Historical Sites

Like many of the larger Greek islands Kos was strategically important in the defence of Greece and had cultural impact. As a result there are many sites of historical importance to visit including Asklepion, the Roman Odeon, Ancient Agora and many more.

The currency of Kos (and Greece) is the Euro.
