Thailand Holidays

Beaches, culture, wildlife and of course the food!

Thailand Holidays

Thailand is one of the most popular countries for tourists, as it’s got something for everyone! Whether you’re after a relaxing beach break, an Island hopping experience, partying till the sunrises, or opening your eyes to the culture within this amazing country, we have something for you!

Located within Southeast Asia, Thailand is bordered by Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia.

Bangkok is the biggest City and is usually the main hub for international airlines and long haul flights, so sometimes you may have to change planes here if you’re travelling to somewhere else within the country. It’s worth spending a couple of days here if you can - there’s plenty to see and do! The highlights are the shopping malls, the local markets, museums and temples, and the vibrant nightlife!

Most of Northern Thailand is covered by jungle and countryside. This makes it an excellent place for trekking, bamboo rafting, and ziplining. It’s also home to a vast majority of the Thai elephant population and many elephant sanctuaries are located up there. The biggest city is Chiang Mai which is used as a base for people to explore from. You can reach Chiang Mai on an overnight train from Bangkok.

Southern Thailand is home to some of the world's most amazing beaches and Islands! This is where the sun seekers, party animals and divers go to play!

Phuket Holidays

Phuket is one of the most popular and well known beach holiday destinations within Thailand. There’s hundreds of hostels, hostels and resorts scattered along the coastline and in Phuket Town itself, to suit any budget! It’s Thailand’s biggest Island, connected easily from the mainland if travelling from other destinations, otherwise it also has its own airport serviced by many major international airlines such as Emirates.

For those seeking a busy atmosphere and the buzz of nightlife then the southern beaches are typically more crowded with plenty of holiday makers enjoying the beaches, shopping, restaurants, bars and clubs. Patong in particular is the most well known beach area, followed by Kata and Karon beaches.

If a quieter, more relaxed holiday is what you’re after, then head to the quieter beaches in the North of Phuket such as Mai Khao, Naithon and Pansea.

What to see and do in Phuket:

  1. Big Buddha - a 45m high golden Buddha statue.

  2. Beaches! Check out the amazing beaches and chill out, swim, snorkel, surf.. Whatever appeals!

  3. The Old Town. Marvel at the architecture of the Old Town.

  4. Relax at one of the many spas and try a classic Thai massage.

  5. Take a day trip to the Islands - Travel by boat to the local Islands such as Koh Phi Phi and Maya Bay (location from the movie The Beach!)

North Thailand Holidays

The most popular places to visit in Northern Thailand are Chiang Mai and Pai. Most of the North is covered by jungle and rural countryside, so this is where you’d go if you prefer the mountains and jungle, to beaches.

It’s also home to a vast majority of the Thai elephant population and many elephant sanctuaries are located up there, although it’s important to do your research before visiting one, as some treat the elephants better than others. It’s recommended not to ride them, just admire them from a distance.

The biggest city is Chiang Mai which is used as a base for people to explore from. Here you can check out the night markets, have a myah tai lesson or cookery class, explore by bicycle, or relax in a spa. Book a day trip out to the jungle to do some zip lining or bamboo boat rafting!

Pai is a quaint town and attracts mainly backpacking tourists, with its quirky bars and chilled out vibes. From here, hire a moped and hit the road, exploring the countryside and it’s waterfalls, caves, mountains and gardens.

Family Holidays

Thailand is a great family destination, with plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained. Whether it’s beach time you’re after, swimming, snorkelling, kayaking, hiking, there’s so much choice!

Book a villa and have your own cooking facilities and pool, or stay in anything from small local hotels to big all inclusive resorts, depending what kind of experience you’re after. Many hotels will have family rooms with a double bed and a spare bed, or interconnecting rooms.

It’s great for kids to experience a different culture and learn some history - take them on day trips to temples, wander the streets taking in the atmosphere, and visit historical sites.

Budget Holidays

Thailand is well known for being a destination that’s great value for money, with affordable high class accommodation and amazing food in local run restaurants. The flights are likely to be your biggest expense! Once you’re there, costs are low so you don’t need too much spending money. Of course this is dependent on what you plan to do - if you’re going to splurge on shopping in Bangkok and Phuket, or book lots of adrenaline activities such as zip lining and scuba diving then you’re probably going to need to budget a little more. But on the whole eating and drinking is cheap - as long as you avoid the big international chains and ‘western’ cuisines.

Touring Thailand

For those adventurous travellers who can’t sit still and want to make the most of exploring this incredible country, we have a range of multi-day tours taking you to different places every day or so.

We have a huge range of Thailand tours and holidays. The vast majority of what we sell are small group guided tours. The group sizes are between 1 and 16 with an average of 10 to 12 people. Usually groups are made up of 50% solo travellers and 50% couples.

A small group tour is a fantastic way to explore a country. You'll make friends, maybe for life, you'll experience more than if on your own, it's more fun and it's far safer. We can't recommend small group Thailand Holidays enough!

There’s active trips with kayaking, hiking and cycling - taking in the scenery and catching a tan at the same time! For culture vultures choose a trip that visits some of Thailand’s multiple temples - some the iconic buildings, others could be as random as a cave! If you’re interested in history then take advantage of the knowledgeable guides and get the perspective of the locals.

Our expert travel team is on hand to help answer any questions you may have as well as help find the right Thailand holiday for you.

Exploring Thailand

Whether you are just exploring 1 area of Thailand or travelling all over, you will find adventure and culture. Some travellers like to base themselves at 1 hotel or resort and take day trips, for example stay on Phuket and do day trips out to different beaches and Islands.

Thailand Weather

Thailand’s climate differs depending where and when you’re planning to visit. Typically there are 2 seasons: dry and wet, although this is different in each part of Thailand throughout the year.

In Northern Thailand the dry season is November to May, and you’ll rarely experience any rain here in that time period. The temperature rises following the cooler season so you’ll find March to May the hottest time to visit with temperatures in the high 30s.

The wet season runs from June to October and in the early months would usually just be short hour-long downpours, which can biome heavier and longer later in the season.

Phuket and the South West coast (Krabi, Koh Phi Phi, Khao Lak, Koh Lanta, Koh Chang, Khao Sok National Park) have 3 seasons. From November to March it's mostly sunny days with temperatures of a comfortable average of 26 - 32 degrees. This is considered the best time to visit.

From March to May it becomes hotter (30-36 degrees) and more humid. From May it’s wet season so expect some short heavy downpours (usually in the afternoon). September and October will have heavier rains.

The South East Coast of Thailand (Koh Smaui, Koh Tao, Koh Phan Ngan) has the best weather from December to February, with warm, dry weather, and a cool breeze.

March to May the weather gets hotter, from 29-35 degrees.

Late August to November is the wet season, so expect heavy downpours and high humidity.

Don’t be put off too much by the ‘wet season’ as typically the rain is very heavy for an hour or so, then you have sunny skies again.

Currency

Local currency is the Thai Baht and the exchange rate is typically between 40 to 50 TB to £1 GBP.

ATM’s are found everywhere, and most big hotels and restaurants will accept card payments.

Thailand Food

Thai food is one of the most popular in the world. With a range of delicious creamy curries, fresh stir fries, and the famous Pad Thai noodles you’ll never go hungry! The green curry can be very hot so if you like your spice go for it!

If you have specific dietary requirements, it’s best to have a note written in Thai to show restaurant servers to ensure you avoid what you need to. Fish sauce and nuts are popular ingredients, so if you have a nut allergy be sure to make this very clear before ordering, and although many dishes can be vegetarian, the fish or oyster sauce might still be added if not requested otherwise.

The Holiday People Financial Protection

At The Holiday People we give you full financial protection.

Simply, when you make a booking your money goes into a sperate business account and stays there until you go on holiday.

Your money is separated from the money we use to run the business. Your money enters into either a Trust Account or Client Account pending what elements of a holiday your booking.

This means that we will always be able to refund and even if, for some reasons The Holiday People failed, you'd be able to get a refund or go on holiday because your money is separated from the business.

The Holiday People offers some of the most comprehensive financial protection in the travel industry. Many travel companies do not offer the protection we do so even if you don't book with us, please do check how you are protected!
