Vietnam Holidays

Enigmatic mountain, the Mekong Delta and much more!

Vietnam Holidays

With its enigmatic mountains in the north, tempting sandy beaches along the coast, and luscious rice paddies around the Mekong Delta, Vietnam is a spectacular spot for an exotic holiday. Vietnam is a country that has an abundance of history, a wealth of culture, magnificent scenery, and perhaps most importantly, the food is some of the tastiest on the planet!

One of the great things about Vietnam is that the country itself is easy to travel overland when you don’t want to stay in the same spot for the duration of your holiday. Vietnam is a very narrow country, so you could travel north or south through the length of the country without getting lost. The cities have an array of activities on offer, so you could easily spend your entire holiday in one particular spot without getting bored, but if you do want to have an adventure and travel to multiple destinations, you will surely not be disappointed.

Hanoi

The bustling capital, Hanoi is often the place where people have their first glimpse of the country, as it is a popular place to fly into. Scooters and motorbikes whizz by at all times of the day, and street food stalls adorn every corner. The historic ‘Old Quarter’ is brimming with authentic charm, colonial architecture, and merchants selling their wares.

Dong Xuan Market is the place to head to if you are wanting to find a bargain, and Hoan Kiem Lake is a reprieve from the madness of the city.

Halong Bay

A few hours from Hanoi, you will find the striking Halong Bay. If you have made it this far, then you will definitely want to take a cruise in a Chinese-style ‘junk boat’. Limestone islands peek above the emerald waters, the junk boats that float by conjure images of times gone by, and will plunge you into serenity. It’s easy to see how this UNESCO heritage sight has become the most visited destination in Vietnam.

Sapa

The gem of Northern Vietnam has to be Sapa. A mountain town with immeasurable beauty - the mist that can roll in to conceal the phenomenal view of the valley below is intermediate, so when this does pass, it will truly take your breath away. Rice paddies are plentiful, and the region is known for its local tribes. Sapa is a popular spot to partake in a trek, so if you have just one place in Vietnam to test out your hiking skills, this is the place to do it!

Da Nang & Hoi An

Armed with its own airport, and an amalgamation of beaches and mountains, Da Nang is gaining in popularity. Located in the centre of the country, it boasts the longest bridge in Vietnam - Dragon Bridge. On weekend nights, the dragon-shaped bridge comes alive with a display of fire and water erupting from its mouth, earning the reputation as a great spot for a selfie.

Two great beaches are accessible from Da Nang - My Khe is around 6kms away, and Non Nuoc is roughly 13kms away, and an array of restaurants and bars are accessible.

Roughly 30kms south of Da Nang, lies the magical city of Hoi An. Chinese and Japanese influences are apparent throughout the city, from its tea houses, to the iconic lanterns that decorate every street. Tailor shops are omnipresent and this quaint little city has become famous for them. You can usually get measured up, have your wardrobe made, and still have time for some alterations so long as you are able to stay for a few days.

The river (complete with a Japanese-style bridge)  runs through the centre of the city in Hoi An, so you can simply take a seat in one of the many restaurants and sample the culinary delights, and take in the quaint surroundings with a cold drink in-hand.

Nha Trang

On the coast of southern Vietnam, lies Nha Trang. You won’t find much of authentic Vietnam here - it’s a place of skyscrapers, promenades and cable cars! However, this beach resort town has its pull with tourists for a reason, so if you are wanting to enjoy the golden-sand beaches with modern comforts all around, then this will be the place for you!

Ho Chi Minh (Saigon)

At the opposite end of the country to the capital of Hanoi, lies dazzling Ho Chi Minh. Whereas Hanoi has its roots encased in tradition, Ho Chi Minh is its modern, younger sibling. Although not the capital, it is the financial centre of Vietnam, growing in wealth and is a metropolis in its own right.

It would be a mistake to assume that Ho Chi Minh is lacking in culture and history - this is definitely not the case. The horrors of the Vietnam War are evident throughout the city. There are several museums that depict the war throughout the city that will feed your historical knowledge. In addition to this, the Cu Chi tunnels are a must-see - these were used as means of shelter to Vietnamese people during war times, and it is a humbling feeling to enter them yourself.

Suited to backpackers who seek street food cuisine and market bargains, to those who want a comfortable trip with boutique hotels, Ho Chi Minh is a city for all budgets.

Vietnam Budget Holidays

With its wealth of street food stalls, simple guesthouses, and long-distance buses and trains, Vietnam is accessible to those on a budget. The cost of living in Vietnam is low, so the all-important spending money can be stretched a little further!

Many of the trains and some of the overnight buses are ‘sleepers’, so you should be able to catch some sleep as you travel through the night.

Food in Vietnam

Vietnamese food is not only some of the tastiest in Southeast Asia - it is surely a contender as some of the best in the world. A trip to Vietnam is not complete with sampling ‘Pho’ - a highly flavoursome noodle soup. Although the dish is gaining popularity throughout the world, nothing can beat the authenticity of sampling a bowl of Pho at one of the thousands of street food stalls throughout the country.

Hailing from Hanoi, another delicious delicacy is ‘Bun Cha’, which is noodles, grilled pork and sweet & sour fish sauce to accompany it!

‘Banh Mi’ is another must-try dish that is popping up around the world. Essentially a pork baguette with pickled vegetables, it can be enjoyed any time of the day and it’s easy to see why it has become so popular!

Vegetarians, fear not - fresh vegetables, herbs and tofu are widely available, so it is usually easy to seek out veggie dishes, even in more rural areas.

Currency

Vietnamese Dong is the official currency. ATMs are available in cities and larger towns, but are harder to find in rural areas, so it is best to have access to a little cash.

Bartering is common in markets, but not in hotels and restaurants etc.

When to Go

The weather in Vietnam differs from region to region. As a general rule, the best weather in Vietnam is between September - December, and from March - April.

May to October is monsoon season, but this can vary, and it should not deter you from visiting during these months.

The Holiday People Financial Protection

At The Holiday People we give you full financial protection.

Simply, when you make a booking your money goes into a sperate business account and stays there until you go on holiday.

Your money is separated from the money we use to run the business. Your money enters into either a Trust Account or Client Account pending what elements of a holiday your booking.
