Zagreb Holidays

The capital of Croatia, Zagreb is a wonderful city of of huge importance to this gem of the Adriatic.

Zagreb is inland, east of the coast and lying close to the border with Ljubljana, a perfect long weekend away and city break destination.

With only two hours flying time from the UK and many daily flights, Zagreb is easily accessible.

The city itself is distinguished by its architecture dating from the 18th and 19th century and of Austria / Hungarian influence. Whilst the city itself is old in recent times it has modernised to offer wonderful food, contemporary galleries and many restaurant and bars to explore. Zagreb these days feels much more like a young and hip city with a 'can do' vibe.

Please see below for more information and don't hesitate to contact our team to find out more or book your weekend away!

Where is Zagreb?

Zagreb is located in the north of Croatia lying inland and close to the border with Ljubljana to the north. The coast is quite some distance away so this is not a city to visit if you're looking for sea!

How to get to Zagreb?

Zagreb is best arrived at via flying from one of the UK main airports direct. Throughout the year there are regular flights with flying time around two hours.

Zagreb airport is around twenty minutes drive from the city.

Where to stay?

There are lots of places to choose from such as the usual Hiltons, some decent Airbnb's but we think that some of the hotels are excellent value and a real treat for a short city break. We'd suggest looking at:

1. Hotel Jagerhorn - dating from 1827 with only 18 rooms.

2. Esplande Zagreb - built in 1925 for passing Orient Express passengers, this is the most upmarket hotel in the city and if you don't stay, visit the bar!

3. Swanky Mint Hostel - if you're on a budget and don't mind a dorm this chic boutique hostel might be for you.

4. Lobagola Bed & Breakfast - in the old town centre a lovely little B&B.

5. Hotel Dubrovnik - confusingly in Zagreb, you won't find a better location.

Where to eat ?

Goodness, there are SO MANY good places to eat, Time out even has a list of 100 places that you must go to:)

We honestly don't feel too good about recommending one above another here as there are so many good places, it really is an undiscovered gem and great value. What we do recommend is exploring the streets and find a place that takes your fancy. There are loads of places for all budgets and great food !

The Weather

As you may imagine Zagreb has a annual temperature range like much of central Europe. The summer months generally average from 22 degrees Celsius is May to 27 in July whilst the winter months can drop to 5 degrees or lower.

There is no 'bad' time to visit Zagreb but we'd certainly recommend the spring, summer and autumn months.

Things to know about Zagreb

Here are some things about Zagreb you might like to know...

1. Dragons. There are loads all over Zagreb as well as reptiles. There are some good walking tours which take you through some dark, dark times!

2. Saturday Mornings. Are not for sleeping in. Saturday mornings are for Spica which is to say, get glam, get out, get coffee and mingle!

3. History. Zagreb has more museums per capita than anywhere else in the world. This is with good reason, Zagreb has a complicated history.

4. The Dolac Market. A market like no other, make sure you visit.

5. Wifi. Is free all over the city centre:)

6. Value. Zagreb is, hands down, one of the best value cities in Europe.

The Holiday People Financial Protection

At The Holiday People we give you full financial protection.

Simply, when you make a booking your money goes into a sperate business account and stays there until you go on holiday.

Your money is separated from the money we use to run the business. Your money enters into either a Trust Account or Client Account pending what elements of a holiday your booking.

This means that we will always be able to refund and even if, for some reasons The Holiday People failed, you'd be able to get a refund or go on holiday because your money is separated from the business.

The Holiday People offers some of the most comprehensive financial protection in the travel industry. Many travel companies do not offer the protection we do so even if you don't book with us, please do check how you are protected!
